The event was made worthwhile by the presence of Dr Saurabh Sharma, who enlightened us with the explicit knowledge of Ayurveda and all other factors that affect our well-being. The entire session was photographed by Amit Bhadra, a B.tech student. The above event was also graced by the presence of Kazuo Tsuruoka from TPR and Shigeo Nishiyama from Kokoku Company.

The event started with a welcome note by Dr. Anuradha Parasar. She also made an introduction to NU’s Asian Lens Initiatives. Dr. Saurabh Sharma was introduced to the august house by Sushmita Singh (B. Tech Student). Next in queue was the talk and the presentation by Dr.Saurabh, who believes in not only curing, but preventing the ailment and creating a disease-free society. Ayurveda means ‘knowledge of life’ which not only depends upon the herbal and natural medication, but also depends upon place, age and diet. He very intelligently cleared out many myths that people believe. For instance, ayurvedic medicines don’t have side effects. But the truth is, they can be harmful if not taken in proportion as prescribed by doctors. Ayurveda is theoritically based on the 5 elements: Fire, Water, Air, Earth & Ether. Each of them signifying energy, meditation, movement, fitness etc. They need to be balanced in our body in order to maintain a healthy living.

Diet is also an extremely important part of this process as our body structure and mechanism is based on the food we eat. We all know the famous quote about eating breakfast like a king. But Ayurvedic study shows that morning time,6am-10am is the time when our digestion process is slow, and breakfast is supposed to be light. He then familiarised us with our body tissues and cells known as ‘dhatus’ in sanskrit and their functions. These contain plasma, haemoglobin, muscle tissue, fat tissue, bone tissue, bone marrow and reproductrive tissue.According to him,the 3 main pillars of life are: diet, sleep, celibacy.

Along with these inspiring pearls of wisdom,we were also informed about the various food combinations which could be harmful and could lead to diseases. For example, honey with the same amount of ghee is a poisonous mixture. We were enlightened to also learn about our pulse diagnosis which is very important. For males, right hand is checked and for females, the left hand.Providing all this information with much more interesting data and facts. The presentation was followed by a question-answer session, where we were further delighted to gain more knowledge about the topic.

During the event NU’s Asian Lens Members felt great pride in launching the NU’s Asian Lens Ayurveda Health club. The club is constituted to focus on spreading the awareness about Natural Ayurvedic remedies and maintaining a disease-free body.   NU’s Ayurveda Health Club Members are  Dr. Saurabh Sharma (Advisor), Dr. Anuradha Parasar (Faculty In- Charge) and students members are  Sushmita Singh, Deepansh Mody, Tanya Ghumman, Ekta Tiwari, Amrit Bagga and Shweta Jhakar.
